Most of my friends
and fellow colleagues ask questions that relates to the background of the
Internet infrastructure. We only
discovered that day after day since the acceptance of internet in the world of
commerce that we started to use websites and many internet platforms to cater
our business communication comforts.

Take for example when the emergence of
Friendster and then followed by Facebook, and Twitter; almost everyone is
rushing to their nearest office depot to buy a personal computer or a notebook
computer for the reason of keeping in touch with their friends online through
social media websites. With this
absolute change of social life in this modern generation, commerce tries to
take advantage to the shift of traditional socializing system into the
electronic and borderless socializing using the services of social media
websites.

But to my friends
and even me we can question to ourselves, WHO OWNS THE INTERNET? That question will drive as back to the
history of internet as to who started the technology and for what. The forerunners of the Internet namely, John
Perry Barlow and Julian Dibbell introduce the unique community of cyberspace to
the military before it became popular to the commercial world and the common
public. Barlow and Dibbell innovatively
introduce to the world the unique characteristic of cyberspace and internet
usage where in no specific government owns the internet space and also, no one
can control its freedom of communication.
Likewise, American government tries to control the operations and
management of cyberspace but Barlow and Dibbell with other known characters of
the Internet like Larry Roberts, Robert Kahn, Vint Cerf, Jon Postel, and Dave
Clark continuously defended the legacy of their work that cyber space is a free
space which they commonly call “Virtual Space”.
The characteristic of cyberspace is where no government can control the
flow of information across the universe.
Further revelation sights the concern of the emergence of new segment of
society different from the territorial and regional classification by countries
and continents. Barlow and Dibbell further revealed that due to the Internet
revolution the occurrence of physical territorial “meltdown” will dramatically
unite every country’s views and opinions.
For this reason domestic laws and the International law as a whole would
like to put boundaries to acquire control and dominance but the free nature of
Internet will eventually over rule the functions of governments and its nurtured
policies. Further revelation of Barlow,
implies towards the selection of world leaders in the future based from the
conclusive AI revelation of computing whereby the general public need not to
physically vote for a certain leader but rather from the vivid analysis of the
general public’s “Avatars” or social media activities and social preferences in
the “cloud”.
At present, the new trend
in cyber communities is for a given person to give personal messages
and by incoding it to the cyber community that when the person retires
from his/her physical being, the relatives can retrieve the cyber information
of the deceased individual provided that the information retrieval of the
relatives is having legal authorization from the government. Further elusive cyber innovation reveals that
in the near future human life can be continued through your cyber avatar. This concept ruptured from the concept that
human life comprises several kinds of chemicals and energies that if we can
accurately capture the human energy and transfer to its cyber Avatar then there
is a tendency that human life can continue as Avatars. Inventions come from wild imaginations, who
knows, cyber space is the utopia of human life.
