Asking a research question is totally different from a
normal day-to-day conversation questions.
Research questions are so important to the whole framework and the
outcome information of the research. Many research studies are giving wrong
information output due to the wrong formulation of questions.
Wrong question be guts wrong answer. As what my Professor in research always
repeat and emphasize the phrase “garbage in… garbage out” which means if our
input is wrong then output is also wrong in the same way if we ask wrong
questions it will surely result to a wrong answer.
Having said that questions will affect the
answer, therefore some important points must be considered to make sure that
questions are in accordance with the whole framework of the research.
Guidelines for Asking Questions:
Choose Appropriate Question, Forms, Make Items clear, Avoid
double-barreled questions, Respondents Must Be Competent to Answer, Questions
Should be Relevant, Short Items are best, Avoid Negative Items, Avoid Biased
Items and Terms
