Essay Writing as a Narrative Approach

The word Narrative derives from the word Narration which relates to the process of telling stories in writing.  Many types of stories and news events are being related to the actual readers through Narrative writing. 

Likewise, narrative writing will give the writer a chance to give a statement by relating the actual events happened from the past.  As such, narrative writing can be useful in any actual business writing purposes.  To give some examples, it would be more convenient for the reader of this blog to classify the examples in an emphatic order.

1.Considering Purpose and Audience

Knowing your reader first before writing any narrative report is a way to visualize your objective of writing.  Readers are crucial in terms of the knowledge content given in your write-up.  If your readers are having enough knowledge of the subject being discussed in the narrative report, it is wiser to review not only the syntax and the order of ideas but also the technical knowledge being included in the narrative report.  Narrative stories are more colorful when the real fruit of the story is properly presented in the essay.

2.Using Dialogue

Using dialogue conversation in a narrative writing, maybe in a form of interview will allow the reader to be entertained and eliminate boredom as the reader continues to read the essay article.  Dialogue will allow the writer of the narrative report to emphasize the points in a way of asking questions to the other person in the dialogue that will answer the question from the opposing character of the dialogue.  If dialogue is included in the narrative writing, it is easier to move one plot to another which will give the writer to be more flexible in giving the main ideas of the report.

3.  Using Quotation Marks

Using quotation marks for special group of words that will give a huge impact to your write-up would be a great idea so that the reader will be aware of the important words used in the whole narrative article. Quotation further separates the group of words from the sentence and the paragraph giving more emphasis to the meaning of the quoted words.

4. Unity of Ideas

Your main ideas in the whole narrative article must be connected not only in terms of ideas but also the technical usage of “Transition words” this kind of words will greatly affect the meaning of the idea being presented to the next paragraph of the essay. Transition words are being classified into six types which are Addition Signals, Time Signals, Space Signals, Change-of-Direction Signals, Illustration Signals, & Conclusion Signals.  All of the six types of transition words must be carefully used not to destruct the objective of the writer in delivering the whole meaning of the narrative essay.

5. Support

Supporting details is also important in proving your statement in a logical manner. Giving support in proving your notion in writing a narrative report will give the reader the tendency of believing your written statements. Moreover, valid supporting data is also needed to efficiently support your given notion.  Actual event reports are good examples of real data that can be included in your narrative report.  As such, news events are being taken as the bases for support in most written narrative essays using the chronological order.

6. Coherence

A good narrative essay must have a good coherence of ideas following the technical order of using the proper order of topic signals and transitions.  Coherence must be felt not only by the writer but most of all to the reader which is the recipient of the written article.

7. Sentence Skills

Proper presentation and order of syntax must be observed in order to avoid the “dangling” phrases that will lead the reader to misunderstood words.  Grammar and spelling errors are the common reasons why technical narrative writing will lead to an ineffective written communication.

Thus, the utmost goal of writing is to let the writer express the desired feelings and imagination of once self converting it into a conceptual diagram which will lead into a written form of presentation following a logical order of ideas.  Writing is more fun when you write with a purpose and a desire of presenting something in mind into a written narrative article.
