The newly passed bill to the senate regarding the cyber law
intensifies when the bill is being defined without fully addressing the real
concept mapping of the internet communication platforms and rights. As to the layman’s understanding, internet is
all about libel and posting scandalous videos that will harm other netizens
reputation.
Well, that is a good and
protective law. But with the wide coverage of internet media one single ruling
is not enough to generalize the internet activity of the different internet
media platforms. For example, many
established media companies like CNN and BBC they are encouraging their
followers online to contribute raw videos of their specific location to participate
the real time media news delivery.
With
this simple act of netizen, large media companies have the convenience to cover
micro information right directly from the locale of the netizen involved. But on the contrary, cyber activities that
will also harm the national and international security and the general public
at large are presumed also as a criminal offense.
In relation to the new bill passed to the
senate, some law makers in the Philippines is only good in playing Angry Birds
and Candy Crush but they don’t know the relevance of Social Media as a society’s
new platform of freedom of expression.
Good to realize that some Senators like Honorable Senator Miriam
Santiago and Francis Chiz Escudero who are receptive to the change of media
deliverance throughout the nation and the world.
