Using Six Sigma in Politics and Education

It sounds awkward when you hear Six Sigma is being used in politics and education. Yes, Six Sigma is used for business production and the quality control of the company.  But just today during my early morning coffee time while reading the text of Pande et al. in titled “The Six Sigma Way How GE, Motorola and other Top Companies are Honing Their Performance. I come to realize that maybe the concept of six sigma can also be used in politics and education giving the fact that the overall intention of the formula is the same which is quality.

Getting good and almost perfect quality is the reality of production but six sigma allow the bench mark of the given task to be above perfection that by which error is impossible to occur.  With all the recalled examples and note taking during my university years I came across in my thinking what if the concept of six sigma will also be used in politics and education.  Maybe, to some academics using the concept of six sigma in business and production is the well accepted practice but using it in politics and education is some kind of a mockery to the author of the theory and the person who popularize the concept itself Mr. Jack Welch of GE.  On the contrary, some cases reveal that using six sigma in their company hasn’t given any improvement in performance and profit, were by we can roughly say that Six Sigma will not fit to all business organization. Maybe, using it in politics and education will reveal new results in the given industry.  Note that business, politics, and education has its commonality in terms of management and organization which will carry the general purpose of Six Sigma which is quality management related to TQM or total quality management.

At this time the gradual fading of the theory Six Sigma being used in huge companies in US like Motorola, GE, and Honeywell are starting to lose its popularity starting the financial crisis in US and Europe.  But the effectiveness of the theory is still the Holy Grail of TQM and Zero defect concept in production and management.

IF academics and scholars can diversify the power of Six Sigma formula towards Politics and education I believe it will carry a strong amount of perfection energy.  To explain in a parallel view, Six Sigma is like an Atomic Energy formulation that can be used in any mechanical operation.  Example, Atomic Energy can be used to fuel several machines like submarines, electric power plant, satellites etc.   If scholars can enhance the flexibility usage of Six Sigma in Politics and Education maybe these two entities will be quality driven with the expectations of above one-hundred percent.
