Book two of the series publications of Francis Fukuyama,
from “The Origins of Political Order” to “Political Order and PoliticalDecay” relates the emergence of the state. The United States of America
orchestrated the complex system of the state system were they effectively
impose their state and democratic system since the declaration of
independence. On 1776 Thomas Jefferson
incorporate John Locke’s ideas of natural rights into the declaration of independence
in the United States. During 1689 United
States and England considered the found state system as the modern
democracy. The glorious Revolution,
(they call it) emerged as the ideology super power were the ideology of Marx
and Lenin are also practiced by leading countries of the world like Russia and
China at that time. Fukuyama said, “State
administration does not consist of the ruler’s family and friends; rather,
recruitment to administrative positions is based on impersonal criteria such as
merit, education, or technical knowledge”.
As US based most of their state policies from the academic point of view,
the rapid increase in the state system spread around the globe that the system
of Pax Romana was relieved by the emerging Pax Americana. But the teachings of Marx and Lenin are also
spreading in Europe, Central Asia, and China.
Indeed, political conflicts that ends up in war and political conflicts
can’t be avoided due to the new religion called “Political Ideology”. From the
basic concepts of Fukuyama’s political development that political order is
based from 1. The state 2. Rule of Law 3. Mechanism of Accountability. Thus, most of the governments around the
world of today regardless of their pattern and political form has the problem
of the “Mechanism of Accountability” this part of political governance
regardless of political ideology are struggling in implementing who is
accountable to the laws and rules being imposed by the state.
The book “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini proves
the actual real life scenario of the people of Afghanistan during the war in
Afghanistan that the theory of Fukuyama of “Social Mobility” proves that the
people of Afghanistan at that very moment needs to evacuate to other countries
as refugees and survive as human beings.
The book “The Silk Roads, A New History of The World by PeterFrankopan portrays the political picture of Central Asia in a beautiful
narrative way that the contours of every region in Central Asia are being told
in a political science point of view.
Furthermore, the Silk Road is further implied as the road of “Faith”
where power ideas and divine teachings are uniquely found in the region. From the Pacific, Central Asia, India, The
Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean, all of these populated market places in
Central Asia embraces the many teachings of the many ethnic religions of the
region. During the Pax Romana the Roman
Empire tried to venture the regions in Central Asia and the Middle East were
the religious conflict between Islam and the Christians did a great war depression
in the region were the Islam defended their territory in terms of their strong
culture and religious practice. The book
“Jerusalem by Simon Sebag Montefiore”. On the other hand, during the
time of Hitler, Germany is also is in full power with their political ideology
spreading as fast as the holy gospel in Middle East and Africa. As such, Hitler’s
Swastika operated many untold stories in the region of Jerusalem and Africa
that gained resources in favor to the German Army for envading almost half the
region of the world against the Allied Forces. At such time that the “silk road”
was involved in the political conflict during the “Cold War” the main
countries that was involved in the regional political conflict is the two Koreas
that was finally divided into North and the South. Since the tragic war in “Pearl Harbor” until
the “Cold War” The Pacific became the focal point of political debates and
discussions around the globe. I would
say that The Pacific is the New Jerusalem where ideologies and religious
beliefs come to collide. Until today
the Pacific is a controversial region that the ASEAN countries are congested in
their territorial seas not knowing what historical reference mapping they will
follow. Is war possible in the region? The
answer is maybe yes and no.
The book of Simon Winchester, Pacific depicts the
role of the Pacific in economic and trade of the world. During World War 2 US and the Allied forces
tested many kinds of bombs in the pacific ocean region knowing that the area of
pacific can afford to swallow all the shock and the radioactive side effects of
the bombs tested in the region. With the
fast logistical support of the US military in the region both government and
commerce are being benefitted by the social mobility incurred by the fast pace
of logistical technology and programming executed by the US military. As Fukuyama always emphasize the role of
Social Mobility in the modern political governance, US government and the
military advances to the Islands of the Pacific and capture the hearts of the
people of the Pacific like Guam and Hawaii.
The book of Simon Winchester, Pacific narrates the story of Hobart“Hobie” Alter who invented the polyurethane surfboard and overtime his
friend George “Grubby” Clark turned surfing to a famous sport in America
that young people in America until today are crazy of playing that simple
machine that Hobart got the concept from the “Balsa” of the natives from
Hawaii. Thus the song popularized by the
“Beach Boys” echoed throughout US that marketed the sport of surfing.
Famous names like Duke Kahanamoku won the Olympics and popularize the sport in
a global manner. The fast transport of
merchandize from US and the Pacific proves the concept of Fukuyama that social
mobility will change and revolutionize the political setup of the world. Simon added in his book that even
communication since World War 2 are starting to accelerate in speed that made
the US intelligence more effective in imposing world order. As of today Guam and Hawaii are the main
military bases of US considered as crucial point in their Pacific defense. During the Cold War 1944-1968 the U.S.Navy environmental research vessel “USS Pueblo” was captured by North
Korean soldiers that made more high tech intelligence executed both The US and
the Soviet Union. Further negative and
positive effects of Social mobility is felt in the region. Global warming and
high seas resulting to floods in the regional islands are part of the changes
in the Pacific that the world is always watching as to what point the Pacific will
come to a political unity or a political impasse.
