With the current academic and political science trends discussion related to economics and political governance. Many scholars both online and offline are sharing ideas about the writings of Francis Fukuyama, Michael J. Sandel, Richard J. Evans, and Noam Chomsky et al. These academicians are trying to find the next era of governance and politics. Across the board, these authors had one thing in general and that is the latest form of governance which is the democratic form of government is coming to a decay as what Fukuyama termed it. But I would say that democracy has just reach to its exhaustion that the country who implemented such kind of political governance has its backlogs.
Noam Chomsky in his book the
Global Discontents shows how complete democracy showed the slow governance and negatively
affecting the livelihood of the common people.
During World War 1 and 2 everyone in the world is seeking complete
democracy due to the effect of war and the tutors that everyone experienced
during the 2 succeeding world wars. This
premise is the fundamental platform of complete democracy that everyone enjoyed
through the years. As UN implemented the
rights and the Magna Carta, Men enjoyed the fullness of rights that men gave to
each other. But the argument today is how
the leading democratic govern countries are experiencing the negative effect of
democracy to its people itself. Noam
Chomsky argued that the greatest strength of a government run by democratic
form of government is democracy itself but on the contrary the greatest
weakness is also democracy. As of today,
as what Chomsky argued that democratic form of government is being abused by
people to curtail their personal motives.
Caesar talks to the XIII & Titus the Patriot
Thus, good lawyers in US are working with big conglomerates to protect and curtail the legal regulations amended by the congress and the senate. Many democratic countries are in a dilemma of immature democracy that rather abuse of the few political players will come in. Thus, Sandel always refer to the fundamental concepts of philosophy and political science of Aristotle and Kant that though the concepts of the great teachers are a fundamental to the cases in the US but to be applied in the context of the modern democratic form of government the moral philosophies of Aristotle and Kant somehow are not in accordance to the modern practices of the modern democratic governance of today. Many example cases that Professor Sandel implied in his lectures in Harvard touches the very essence of democracy that Chomsky further sited examples in the real practices of war in Afghanistan. Using of unmanned drowns that remotely being operated in US that people in Afghanistan are not noticed in their names as humans but as objects of war. Professor Sandel gave the theoretical point of view from the crooked connection of the moral values of Aristotle and Kant in terms of moral laws to the modern implementation of democratic governance.
Chomsky further sited examples during
the democratic voting of the people that in the US lobbyist in the senate and
in the congress are in a routine practice that companies are inserting the
motives of these big conglomerates to operate in the soil and the seas of US. Example the operation of Oil refinery of BP
in the gulf of Mexico that later committed a devastating tragedy to the habitat
in the gulf of Mexico that later BP paid a huge amount of money to the
government of US during the time of Obama.
Nevertheless, the ecological damage has been done due to the greed of
the politicians inside the congress and the senate. Lobbying is a huge business deal of the
democratic politicians around the world.
But during the time of the emperors lobbying are seldom a case of abuse
due to the intense obligatory position of the emperors to his land. Emperors long time ago gave their sweat and
blood to save the empire and its people.
Thus, patriotism during the era of empires and kings are as solid as
rock compared today. Today, knowledge
increase but patriotism and belongingness in protecting the land is starting to
decay.
Due to freedom and democracy, faces and pictures of President Obama and Donald Trump are being abused in the
streets around the world. Respect to the leaders of the country are gone in
democratic countries. Indeed, Chomsky
noted in his concept that the greatest strength of democracy is democracy but
on the contrary the greatest weakness of democracy is also democracy. Evans also added to the concept of Chomsky
that nationalism by voting is a practice of nationalism and democracy during the
time or world war 1 and 2. But as of
today the debating arena of the senate is just a shouting ground of their ego
and personal intentions curtailing their business allies from other international
business conglomerates. Evans further
discussed that there is illusion of freedom in democracy. He further noted that democracy in the eyes
of the senators with “political string attachments” caused the instability of
governance in Europe 1871-1914.
The Might of Kings and Emperors by: Conn Iggulden
CONN IGGULDEN (EMPEROR THE BLOOD OF THE GODS)
With my current political and economic readings from the
book of Evans down to Fukuyama et al. I
came across to this historical fiction author Conn Iggulden who wrote many
historical fiction of Rome and the history of Emperors. The book “Emperor the blood of Gods” portrays
how Ceasar ruled Rome and struggle to deal with his senators. Marcus Brutus, Cassius, and the most controversial
Mark Anthony that later made more political deals and relationship with Cleopatra. In my previous blog about Pax Romana relates
only the academic and theoretical point of view in the governance of Caesar. But in this historical novel of Conn Iggulden
fiction will again play the imaginative minds of the readers connecting to the real
theoretical cases in examples from the academic authors like Sandel et al.
Caesar is a hero but he was murdered by his most trusted allies
like Brutus who led the conspirators. But his adopted son Octavian is a controversial
name in the history of Rome that the day of reckoning sweep the battlefield of
Philippi. Comparing the modern political
theorist of today towards the historical background of politics before the democratic
form of government came to birth allows every political analyst to ponder the
future of governance granting the revealing backlogs of democratic form of
government today. Even Obama himself is
not contented of what he assumed during his first day of governance. Same is true with Trump.
The people scrap the
Obama Care. In the bigger context on the
theories of governance. How can modern
democracy address the need of the continued evolution and decay of
civilization? Do you think democracy is still effective in our International
governance and political affairs?
Remember during the political and governance evolution in the time of
the Romanovs the people in Europe are discontented. Until such time Napoleon
innovatively revolutionize the political setup in France and dominated
Europe. But still it continues to evolve
until such time that the political setup of United States became a pattern of
governance specifically during World War 2.
But how about today and the future of world governance. Do you think democracy is still effective
both theoretically and practically? What is next to democracy? Do you think a new Julius Caesar will rise to
shape the world again like the Pax Romana and the later Pax Americana?
