The mobility of humans across the world causes war and divide
of nations but it also allows people to intermarriage and made other nations
closer as allies. From my latest blog
article (Economy, Politics, and the Fall
of Nations) reveals that miss political management of a certain country will allow
the people to react and eventually affect the economic and overall security of the
nation. Another important aspect of
civilization that we can ponder and think inferentially is the aspect of food
supply and product around the world. The
book of Lizzie Collingham depicts the history of how food and food supply even
the transport of seeds from the Africas to the Americas change the pattern of
food industry around the world. Presently,
we can observe in many governments today that the imbalance of food supply
around the world will allow other countries to starve and other countries to be
more abundant in fat, sugar, and salt.
Indeed, the disparity of food supply around the world will relatively
affect the civic stability of a given country.
Some countries who are having enough food supply will eliminate the risk
of civilian famine and eventually chaos and looting of any given nation.
I presumed that the Empire of England enhanced
their NAVY unit knowing that in exploring the vast lands of the Africas and the
Americas they need the service of the navy.
Thus, during July 1545 “MARY ROSE” with 185 soldiers, 30 gunners, and
200 mariners started their exploration not only the vast lands of the world but
also, they explored the many variety of food and agricultural products around
the world. Unfortunately, when Mary Rose sunk with its Lord Admiral of the
Fleet, Viscount Lisle it was found out that the ship is full of food stuffs and
remains of fish bones in which archeologist considered that it came from
different parts of the world. Later it revealed that it is not only Mary Rose fleet
who is having activity in transporting food and agricultural products but
rather almost everyone around the world those who have power and money to
travel and exploring the seas has the capacity to enjoy the variety of food and
agricultural products around the world. In Asia on the other hand the
Portuguese is into addiction in trading with commodities with Asia Silk and Porcelain
are the famous commodities that we can take as an example that is traded across
the Asian region. Spices from India and Asia are transported to England to satisfy
the hunger of the increasing population of England considered as the capital of
civilization as part of Europe at that time.
All of my readings that relates to war and civilization connects to the
writings of Yuval and Fukuyama that civilization will increase the amount of
food in the world from farming to industrial revolution. Indeed, production of food and agricultural
farming increased in such amount that mankind in some parts of the world is in
the stage of Gluttony.
When humans are
full and well rested increase in population is inevitable. As a fact during the time when England tried to
import as much as many goods from around the world specifically agricultural
food population increase rapidly in Europe.
Thus, the theorem of Yuval and Fukuyama translate the fact that the rapid
increase supply of food and agriculture products in some parts of the world
allow humans to multiply in population which will affect to the imbalance of
the habitats around a given region of the world. Thus, the problem of population explosion in
our world governments today and the UN food production is partly to be blamed
of the fact that increase in food supply allow mankind to conveniently multiply. According to Yuval and Fukuyama the natural
effect of hunting and gathering system of human survival should continue rather
than farming and the modern industrial revolution. The
reason for that is, when a given civilization is out of food supply granting
that its supply is from the natural habitat mankind will die according to the
balance of the natural food supply from the surrounding. But with the advancement of farming and the
modern farming starting from the industrial revolution, men experience the
gluttony of food that allows the natural effect of overpopulation. Famine occur when the supply of food and water
is lesser compared to the given civilization.
But mankind saw the horror of the effect of famine that is why men used logic
to double and triple the supply of food and agriculture products around the
world.
In understanding the concepts of
Yuval and Fukuyama the reader will understand clearly the implications of the
literature of Lizzie Collingman in the evolution of food production and
agricultural product allowing the world population to suffer gluttony. Another
aspect that is being transported during the time of the English exploration in
the Americas and Africas is the importing and exporting of human slaves. When the English finally explored the new
world, they need people to help them farm the lands of the new world. As a result, they send the slaves from the
regions of Africa and Central Asia to the new world that many Africans migrated
as slaves to the US. As a thought from
the concepts of Yuval and Fukuyama the translation of mobility of humans across
the globe allow humans to invent and think in such a way that products and
commodities specifically food can be preserved for a longer time or what we
common termed as shelf life. Simple
discoveries such as Salt, Fat, & Sugar is the basic commodity to preserve
food and farm products. To remember the
history of sugar, Lizzie Collingham emphasize the production of sugar in South
America that even the English who has the conscience regarding the slavery in
South America can’t drink the coffee knowing that the sugar that they used come
from the blood of the slaves from Africa.
Sugar production in South America supplied the hungry people in Europe
specifically England. Many traders got
rich because of the 3 commodities namely Salt, Sugar, and Fat. Barbados alone
consumed one third of all the exports London sent to the colonies.

goods required further processing when they arrived at the ports. Tobacco also
had to be cured and rolled muscovado sugar refined into white lamp sugar. Sugar bakeries, as the refineries were known,
sprang up in London and ports around the country. In 1962, there were 19 in the
city and another 19 in Southwark, contributing to the great clouds of smoke around
London. The craving of food and sugar of
the English in London created part of the success of the industrial revolution that
later and even today resulted to the negative effect of global warming and carbon imitation. As the need arise in terms of sugar supply
the amount of land that humans need for farming one commodity like the sugar in
south America must equate to the land area and the amount of sugar harvested
and manufactured for Europe and London. 200 acres and more are required when
food technology came in until today. Bakeries and cakes need enormous amount of
sugar to satisfy the artistic demand of the bakers and the chefs in Europe and
England at that time and the world market of today. Raw food commodities started to be in a point
of scarcity again when food technology increase the required supply and demand
of the basic commodities for world market.
Thus, scientist and agriculturist started to create a biotechnology to
hasten and fasten the production of agricultural products for food technology
production. The concept of “hybrid
Technology” answers the cruel environment of the modern farms of today even
during the time of the industrial revolution.
The
history of corn farming in the United States for example experience a disastrous
dilemma during the time when bacteria and virus also evolve its world existence. Corn production should be healthy with double
the size of the common growth of the corn to adhere to the industrial
production requirements of United States. Note also, that as food technology
advances many food products are being made from one basic commodity source
alone example the corn. Corn Flakes
indeed is famous in the US and around the world. Flour is next to the sugar
commodity that during the time in Old England making bread is both an art and a
commodity. Less to forget the food waste
that will result to carbon emission.
Today conglomerate food technology companies are very keen in their production
process of their food products that in a negative effect a lot of raw
agricultural products are being wasted due to the fact that the standard or the
standard of size for example is not accepted in the world market. Sadly, many nations in the world still
experiencing famine and lack of food supply but on the contrary some parts of
the world are exploding in supply of food and agricultural products resulting
to human illnesses related to food gluttony.
Thus, the result of colonization affected the flow of food supply in the
world today that the cravings and imbalance of supply resulted both humankind
and the environment. What is the future of food production and the
consumption requirements of humans in this ever-increasing world population? Is
food a necessity or a threat to humanity?
