The success studies of Peter Frankopan in terms of the
history of the old silk road in Euro Asia made his first book a success that
many scholars from various universities project the history of the business and
civilization of the Silk Road from the past.
As what I’ve emphasized in my previous blog article from the past
projects how the Kingdoms in the Silk Road made the Civilization of the
past. With my further reference reading
as to broaden the scope of my analysis in terms of the silk road I need also to
read the writing of Niall Ferguson “The West and the Rest” and the most admired
literature of Francis Fukuyama “the origins of political order” and the
“political order and political decay”.
Frankopan’s empirical study of the Silk Road civilization allow him to
invest his time and financial resources as a scholar that his very words in his
first published book about the silk road is so vivid to the minds of the
scholars in terms of interpreting the old concepts of the Silk Road
civilization to the new politics and the “New World Order” as they say. The
second book of Frankopan from the series of the silk road emphasize more of the
future of the world that lies in the region of the Silk Road. Many authors such as Richard J. Evans also
pictures the political power struggle of Europe that made world wars. Evans’ literature intitled “The Pursuit of Power” show how the
governments of Europe come up to a contradicting impasse in terms of the
geopolitical negotiation in the region.
Thus, the book of Joseph E. Stiglitz “The Euro and its threat to the
future of Europe” show the idea of Joseph in terms of how the political
stability of Europe is so fragile in terms of political conflict. Financial stability in Europe is still in a
turbulent financial situation in terms of the performance of the Euro currency
towards the world market. Thus, US
dollar is still the bases of the money market in terms of the fundamental international
trade exercise. The writings of Frankopan in the new silk road emphasized more
of the political and the philosophical concepts of the old silk road region and
how it can carry on to the future of the world.
The international negotiations along the Silk Road is vital not only to
Eura Asia itself but to the international business relationship of Europe and
the West. The first chapter of the book
relates the old concepts of the Silk Road region in terms of the civilization
and trading and how we can still maximize as human habitats for our future
civilization. The road to the east is
very important to the west since the meeting of Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin
last 1993 in Vancouver. The region of
Africa is also crucial part of the future world civilization were the rights
that Nelson Mandela is projecting echoes back to the slavery of the past. The Silk road politics and civilization is so
tangled in terms of the international political negotiations that in terms of
the security of the region many leading countries of Asia are in a conflicting
dilemma not only in a geopolitical sense but moreover to the trade negotiation
among the region. Frankopan further compared The Silk Road to a world football
league that many wants to get the world cup title and dominate the future of
the Silk Road. Russia, Middle East,
& China are the leading political influencer in the Silk Road area since
before time, but moreover the countries in Europe like France, Germany, England
and including the US are also ready to be a part of the Future Silk Road.
THE PARIS AGREEMENT
The Paris agreement being discussed in the writings of Frankopan relates to the many conflicting political relationships not only to the countries in the Silk Road region but to the world that compromises the existing business operation the region. For example, the changes of the Paris agreement connects to the Climate Change new practices that will affect the many conglomerate business in the East and Europe. Thus, even Trump withdraw to the climate agreement that as of this very moment the new President elect Biden is stating his plan to immediately rejoin the Paris Agreement after the pronouncement of his office as the new US President. In terms of the agreement in the region not only China who will make a political interlude but rather many of the countries like South Korea, Japan, India and Pakistan with heavy military equipment capacity that to be specific India and Pakistan are already nuclear capable in initiating a war in the Silk Road. With this, the conflict in the Suez canal involving the Palestine PLO and Israel will rekindle the old conflict in the West Bank. Many agreements are in tangled in the region of the east such as the “Ashbat agreement” involving India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, & Oman. These countries will be the future of the Silk Road to supply energy resources to the world. Thus, the hungry Russia and US and not to mention the new capitalist China will crave the resources of these region in the East. The old Caspian Sea will unravel the political history of the Mediterranean conflict during the time of the Athenians and the Spartans. As such, the book of Graham Allison “Destined for War” compared the resemblance between the historical war of the Athenians and Sparta to the modern and future war of China and the US. Moreover, the supply of oil from Iran from the leading National Iran Gas Company will soon be formally accepted to the world in terms of the existing regional business negotiation with Kzakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, & Oman. Though US is imposing economic sanction with the export of oil in Iran but sooner or later with the political conflict in the New Silk Road will end in the negotiation table, Iran’s capability to export their natural resources will surely flourish. On the contrary, the conflict of India and China near the oil pipeline in Turkmenistan will create a political tremor that will agitate the conflict of Pakistan and India. The oil hungry China will always use his financial power to acquire business deals in this region in order to get the oil resources before America will use its AMERICAN Aid to lure the villages in Afghan region. Just like what happened in the cold war when the soviet and US are in a tag of war in terms of the loyalty in the local politics in the regions of Afghanistan. As such, China will find a way to connect the energy pipeline of the Afghan region by not overlapping the interest of India. The influence of India will also disturb the political stability of China in the Silk Road region. Given the conflict of China in the South China Sea the military alliance of India with Japan and South Korea will add up to the number of countries in the ASEAN region that will involve into conflict with China not only as the recipient of the by product and the commodity goods being produced by China. Climate Change agreement from Paris are in a dilemma of compromising the interest of the countries involved in the new Silk Road. Nevertheless, China will still play a huge role in the new Silk Road determined as the new host of the region. The discussion of Frankopan further explore the political philosophy being structured in the region. By nature, as the observation of the author and the writer of this blog article, empirically follow the evolution of politics between America and China. As China is known to its socialist and communist pattern of politics and America as a capitalist. In the last few chapters of the book explains how China innovate their political framework into a more economic capitalist structure that they allow commercial brand competition inside China market that even American and Japanese brands are already inside China market but their political and military diplomacy are still in a communist pattern. This innovation of their civilization in China created a new frontier of Chinese market in the new Silk Road to come.
On the contrary, America needs more of a socialist system of civilization in terms of the middle class struggle in the US. More and more of the migrants needs more social attention from the government that America can learn how Asian struggle in the working class. Thus, a new convergence of ideals will always come out in the middle of social change. If only Smith and Marx are alive today, they will always find a way to reinvent their respective ideals to seek the present civil conflict in the region of the silk road. Meanwhile, Silk Road countries cannot be effective without the business alliance with Europe and the Latin American countries. Mobility regardless of what political ideals, real business prosperity will be not be measured how you create your business political framework but rather how you reflect your business political ideals to the real people of the countries being represented. To some countries the ideals of Marx are not as suitable compared to the ideals of Smith. And vice versa to some countries the ideals of Smith are not as suitable compared to the ideals of Marx.
Author Peter Frankopan (Live in Bangkok 2020)
The New Silk Road is the new melting pot of
ideas and innovation that will revolutionize the old teachings of Marx and
Smith. How can we make the new Silk Road
to a Utopian type of future history depends how the representatives of the
nations involved in reshaping the ideals into a more humane approach towards
nature and its habitat. Agreements in
international business and politics always reflect from the ideals that are created
in the past, failure to consider the determinants of the present civilization
will lead always to conflict and climate catastrophe that will conclude to
disaster of humanity. The reason why
many business and politics teachers including the important roles of
anthropology and sociology are vital in the next generation to come is the
aspect of the social change. Beliefs are relative to the real physical change
of our world that vivid interpretation in the social norm and practices are
important to the majority of the population not only in the Silk Road Region
but to the people of the world. With the
advancement of technology and education of the world, national leaders are obliged
to reinvent what is best for the future silk road and the new world to come.
THE ROAD TO THE FUTURE
The Belt and Road Initiative will give an edge for Asia and the old silk road to vibrate its commercial power in the near future. Saudi Arabia and China will play a big role in achieving the future economic road with the use of modern technology and AI. Many modern and emerging markets in Asia will also play a role as the actual market for trade practices creating more jobs and economic wealth. Thus, Pacific region and the East will become the new and modern Mediterranean Peninsula for trade and commerce. As such, civilization and cultural practices will possibly continue in the regions of the Silk Road. China, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, & Turkey will play a big part in the economic supply chain in the region and the world. NAFTA and EU will equalize their trade policies considering the trade barriers that is deem unfair to other countries. But the fragility of the geopolitical tension in the region of south china sea will still be a challenge for the world leaders how to contain the treaty problems considering the national sovereignty of each nations involved. Indeed, as what Peter Frankopan had said in his writings that the Silk road is not a new silk road but rather an old road being reborn.
