Rising Educational System in Asia: Harvard expands its Educational Program Services across the Globe

In my previous blogs I discussed the emerging globalization of educational system in US.  Started from the joint program of MIT and Harvard (edEX) with their unlimited online education program, the world is starting to embrace the globalized educational program formulation.  But the recent article I’ve read reveals that the top universities in US are extending their program in Asia. WHY ASIA?

A lot of notions and skepticism will arise from the general public’s point of view. But above all things, educational globalization is the start of world reconciliation and understanding.  As we can see that educational understanding will ease the tension of any political, business, religious, and educational variations across cultural backgrounds. Having the same educational point of view will result to unification of regional policies to a point that peace and world order can be realized.

But in reality, right at this time the program of MIT and Harvard is just the beginning of the global educational interface. On the contrary, Asian universities are also in a negative dilemma if they will not jive with the globalized educational program started by MIT and Harvard.

Moreover, what will these local schools and universities will do with their localized program structure? Can it hold for another decade or two?  Educational change is coming and unification of program structure is a relevant move not to complicate the general meaning of educational globalization.  As the program reveals its globalization orientation, cultural and religious differences in the long-run will ease as the world population comprised by countries and continents, will unite and understand its differences.

"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."
Albert Einstein

And I think, Mr. Albert is implying understanding through education.

Thanks Eva for your comment, regarding the program of global education...I think it will take a long time to implement this program considering the diverse cultural background of Asia. As for my case, I am teaching in one of the ASEAN member countries but still the 10 member countries...the standard of education is not the same. I believe this program of MIT & Harvard edEX will enhance a lot towards global education. From your question (How do you manage the system) I think it depends upon the socio-political status of a given country in Asia. Thanks for dropping by CHEERS!

Ryan,

I found your blog interesting, and would say that I agree with you. Articles that I have read all lean to the fact that other countries continue to come to the US for their higher education. Do you see Asia surpassing the US in higher education?

To Miss Janet, thanks for reading my blog and giving your comment. Your question covers a lot of areas...but basing it to my present idea. I think as for the moment ASIA cannot surpass US educational system granting that US is more open when it comes to research. ASIA on the contrary is more driven with the classic political and religious way of life, for that reason philosophy of education will not jive towards the Asian way of life. Maybe in the future.... CHEERS!

Ryan,

Thank you for your feedback. I would have to agree with your regarding the US being more open to research vice other countries. You mention that Asia is more driven towards political and religious way of life. Do you see the possibility of their philosophy of education changing?

I am a interested to hear others' thoughts on this subject regarding emerging globalization in education, and how this impacts the learning community? As a doctoral student, I am very interested in how globalization in higher education will level the political, business, and religious boundaries. Also, the question arises in this article as to why is the US extending the program to Asia? Why not other countries? Does this have anything to do with how other countries view the learning community?

As the US continues to have funding issues, I am wondering if there would be much of an impact on the learning community within Asia should the US stop funding or extending educational programs to that country?

Upon reading your previous comments, I realized that you are a Phd candidate and answering the question from your last comment in my opinion only without any concrete evidence will only derail your perspective. BUT FOR MY OPINION SAKE ;-) Research and Education funding is mixed with international and global political influence. Example, if US educational funding will go to middle east, africa, and Asia a reciprocal political and business deal will follow to strengthen the ties and relationship of US and any given country. Sad to think that education is sometimes used as a medium in politicking and cross border communication. But I believe that education is being used to connect countries because education is the common ground for all countries. When you consider religion, Political Ideology, and Philosophical views of every country, I think it's a huge disaster.

At least we can see the brighter contribution of education towards world peace.

Peace, to have meaning for many who have only known suffering in both peace and war, must be translated into bread or rice, shelter, health and education, as well as freedom and human dignity.

-- Ralph Johnson Bunche (1904-1971)

Without giving good education to the world, nobody can understand the real meaning of peace

As I learn more and more regarding globalization and our educational system, I find it interesting that other countries are embracing our Western Educational systems. However, with budget cuts, how will this play into the development of programs and enrollments of international students?

Has globalization changed the views of our learning communities? What happens if programs that promote international students cease to exists?

With budget cuts and economical pressures globally, I often wonder if education is truly a "medium" for politics as Ryan has suggested. Should education not be looked at as the pathway to a country's growth? Just a thought

Is education the key to global peace? Is it our responsibility to educate the world? I cannot help but wonder if what would happen international studies ceased to exist?

If Asia is striving to provide the same educational success as the US then why are we still receiving as many incoming international students? Will this impact our current educational communities?
