From disarmament to rearmament major countries who are involve
in the war from world war 1 and 2 requires enough technology resources to
mobilize the military community towards the latest and most high technology war
machines. Since the time of the Egyptians
and the time of Leonardo da Vinci and less to forget the travel of Marco Polo
those iconic people who helped the empires and countries to rapidly increase
their technology in terms of their military armament to boost and feed their
war egos and cravings for power and land invasion. As United States considered as the major ally
of Great Britain and other member countries, United States has the pressure both
political and economical build up to finance the war against the Germans during
world war 2. James B. Conant is one of the
iconic scientist who by profession is a chemist from Harvard that his intelligence
in Chemistry led him to be the major knowledge contributor to create the
weapons of mass destruction of the United States though later chemical weapons
for mass destruction is prohibited by the Geneva convention that led to the
arrest and invasion of Saddam Hussein and Iraq.
But before the agreement of the disarmament of the weapons of mass destruction
in Geneva, the arms race that became a knowledge race for the academes led to
the academic success of James B. Conant.
Less to forget that James B. Conant is the Harvard University President
during the height of world war 2 against Germany. But his knowledge and skill in chemistry is
in demand during the arms race in America.
On the other hand Hitler during that time also is consulting many
multinational companies to contract a project for arms manufacturing. But the demand of Germany at that time and
the allied forces is far beyond the usual orders of arms for national security
purposes. During world war 2 big
companies both in Germany and America together with Great Britain pressured the
big companies to mass produce tanks, war planes, and other military
armaments. But the scarcity of knowledge
and scientific innovation to be used by the companies to formulate new war
machines are starting to get obsolete and being copied by other countries both
the allied forces and the German forces together with Japan. The need for more deadly machines are already
in the minds of the war programmers at that time to initiate mass killings in
the shortest period of time to eliminate cost and agony to humanity with the assured
submission of the opposing country. Thus, both Germany and the Allied forces
are continuing in researching new ways to make the existing and further create
a new machine that will over power the armament of the opposing country. As such, the private companies who contracted
the arms race begun to secure knowledge and innovation from Universities. Indeed, in the case of the United States Army
they immediately gather the academic information from Boston specifically the
Harvard University to gather the minds of the great scientist in America and
lead their critical concepts towards creating high technology weapons to help
the allied forces and win the war against Germany at that time.
Given the fact that Germany with Hitler are
using chemicals to mass murder the Jews and other invaded nations who are
against Hitler at that time gives a uncompelling notion for the allied forces
to create more powerful chemical weapon to outlast the chemical weapon’s power
of the Germans at that time. Undeniably,
United States pressured the academic community in Boston specifically Harvard
to create a powerful weapon exhausting
the outmost knowledge application of science in warfare technology. James B. Conant is not far from the people who
invented the chemical weapons of Germany at that time. Everyone during that time is trying to come
up with a new technology that can wipe out a great population in order for the
leader of the involved countries either Germany or the Allied Forces to submit
and surrender the war. Basically, the
political scenario is war against war that leads to evil versus evil that in
the case of Germany and the allied forces, America must outlast the brutality that
Germany is inflicting to his own countrymen and the Jews. With the moral bases to create the weapons of
mass destruction America has more reason to create a chemical bomb not to
destroy the world but to save the world against the evil being spread by Hitler
during that time in Europe. Again like
Da Vinci in Italy before, the scientist in Harvard are eager to contribute
their knowledge in science weaponized with the modern technology of warfare
that the rearmament during world war 2 made the arms race of United States
outlast the government of Hitler at that time. The government system of fascism and communism
did not outlast the government system of capitalism in terms of money making knowing that during the time of
Hitler the private companies in Germany including the Lufthansa company today
who is involved in mass production of war planes in Germany are all controlled by
the government granting the fact that knowledge and intellectual freedom are
being suppressed by Hitler at that time.
Indeed, Capitalism came first during the war technology arms race in
United States that contributing their knowledge in science to the government is
considered a patriotism and the love of country.
Indeed, the
rearmament resulted to disarmament again after world war 2 that in the Geneva
agreement using of Chemical weapons for mass destruction is prohibited by
international law. Failure to implement in
such notice will be subject to war crimes in the international courts. But during the time of Conant creating chemical
weapon is heroism. The race of creating
an atomic bomb is already in the minds of both allied forces and the force of
Hitler. Technology race to replicate the
power of atoms and create a weaponize bomb is like a gold mine of the war
leaders during that time. Making an
atomic bomb during world war 2 is like a race of technology when the first man
landed on the moon. Today atomic bombs
are everywhere in any corners of the globe from the seas of the atlantic to the
controversial seas of the pacific submarines are not the u-boats of the germans
anymore but the modern technology submarine carrying weaponized nuclear war
heads and also the ships that guards the seas are also fueled with such
technology that diving the deepest ocean for a year is possible with the
nuclear fuel installed by the modern submarines. As such, the atomic arms race started by the
united states became an Atomic Chaos of today that the technology is being copied
like countries like China and many more.
But would you think that the breakthrough of the atomic technology gives
a surprise to the world population at that time that by today we do not know
what are the latest technology of united states that are weaponized to take
advantage to the next era of arms race.
Remember that during the fall of Berlin and Communist Russia all the
military armament of these countries are subject for metal recycling that some
supplies are being smuggled to depressed countries like Afghanistan and Somalia
that later United States has the problem of terrorism. So far the UN and NATO are still occupied in
containing the propagation of atomic arms race that we do not know what is the
next technology for the atomic warfare.
The struggle for political power of every country will always seek the
advice of the scientist and the academic community to advance in their approach
either in political diplomacy or in military aggression. As of today America is not so fascinated with
the all out global war but they are enhancing their special units to operate in
reconnaissance and black operations in any corners of the globe. But still all these war strategies are from
the cravings of the politicians in terms of the newest technological warfare
that can dominate the national interest of a given country.
Russia and China at this time are in a race
of cash leading to the smaller countries around the territorial political area
of China creating a debt trap for the smaller country that by then dept
invasion will eventually allow China to get the submission of these smaller
countries around Asia. But how about
Europe and the United States what kind of technology arms race that China and
its allies must give concern that America is creating in Area 51 at this
time. To some academic scientist the next
war is the star wars that by then united states military will weaponize their satellites
orbiting the globe, that on the contrary China, Russia and other high technology
inspired countries has their own satellites now not weaponize for war but for civic
communication purposes. As such, America
still needs more James B. Conant today to address the next arms race of the
United States. What more could Scientific
America can give to the arms race of the next century. As always the arms race from the past is an
arms race connected to the different ideological egos of the communist, fascist,
and the capitalist showing their political system as effective than the other that
by in reality its citizens itself are suffering to the setbacks of the political
system of the past connected to the arms race initiated from world war 1 to 2.
The
author of the book Jennet Conant who is also the grand daughter of James B.
Conant suggest the picture of the Arms Race of America that topple down the
Hitler regime. But to my personal inference,
is it necessary to create war to end war?
The book War against War by Michael Kazin will clarify these inferences
of mine that I will also share to my blog readers. But to the book “Man of the Hour” we can see
in writing the many heroic and scientific contribution of Conant and many
Harvard scientists to create the atomic weapon to end world war 2. Indeed, war will end war but to the political
notions of Noam Chomsky the many setbacks of capitalism will allow the ideology
of Carl Marx to be more sensible in some points during the political concepts
of the days of James B. Conant. Moreover, many scientist and physicist suggest
that public administration will decay from the point of the leading ideologies
of today to a more scientific kind of public administration in the near
future. Science is not only for arms
race to feed the ego of the different ideologies around the world, but humanity
will need science to administer the whole population. So, if ideology will be obsolete what is the
use of war? and what is the next kind of war when humanity is not ruled by
political ideology but rather scientific governance and diplomacy?
